Agartala: July 21: On Saturday, a total of 296 Indian students entered India from their home country. By 3 PM on the second day, around 162 students, along with other individuals, crossed into India through the Srimantapur checkpoint via Bibir Bazar in Bangladesh. Most of these students are enrolled in various semesters at Mymensingh Medical College in Cumilla.
To facilitate a smooth entry for the students, the Border Security Force (BSF), the sub-divisional administration, and the Land Port Authority set up tents and provided food at the border. This information was shared by BSF Second-in-Command Rajesh Langha.
In related news, the Bangladesh Supreme Court recently delivered a landmark verdict on the reservation system. While the court did not completely abolish reservations, it directed amendments to the system. According to the new directive, children of families who participated in the 1971 Liberation War will receive a 5% reservation in government jobs, while others will receive a 2% reservation. The court emphasized that 93% of government job appointments will be based on merit. The Bangladesh government is required to issue a notification regarding this within three months.
