Govt aims to eliminate malaria in Tripura by 2027: Chief Minister

The Tripura government has set a target of eliminating malaria in the state by 2027. Chief Minister Professor (Dr) Manik Saha said in a tone of conviction while attending the Asia Pacific Leaders’ Conclave in Delhi. He also added that many people lost their lives in Malaria outbreak in Tripura from 2014 to 2016. But now, with improved health services, malaria transmission rates have been reduced.

On this day, he said in a tone of concern that in 2014, malaria took a terrible form in Tripura. 51 thousand 240 people were infected with malaria that year. 96 of them died. Similarly, in 2016, 32 thousand 520 people were affected by the disease. 14 of them died. But in 2022, it was possible to reduce the number of infections. That year 12 thousand 771 people were infected with malaria. But no one died, he said. The chief minister also said that measures are being taken to control the outbreak of the disease by using larvicidal fish and Temefos spray.

The Chief Minister said that Tripura is now ready to fight Malaria with the full support of Government of India, Global Fund through National Vector Borne Disease Control Program, technical support of all scientific organizations like ICMR. According to him, currently 3 out of every 1000 people in Tripura are infected with malaria and the recovery rate is almost 100 percent. He asserted that Tripura is now in a position to eliminate malaria through the Prime Minister’s Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission.
