Agartala, September 27: In a significant event marking World Tourism Day, Governor Indra Sena Nallu highlighted the essential role of peace in the growth and development of the tourism industry. The Governor officially inaugurated a cycle rally and peace procession at Ujjayanta Palace, organized by the Tourism Corporation. The event began with the release of white balloons, symbolizing peace. Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury and the Managing Director of the Tourism Corporation, Prashant Badal Negi, were also present.

In his address, Governor Indra Sena Nallu reminisced about the past when village fairs attracted people from distant places. He noted that modern tourism has evolved, with people now exploring new destinations to experience local customs, culture, food, clothing, agriculture, and wildlife. This evolution has led to the construction of hotels, boosting employment and income, and transforming tourism into a thriving industry. However, he stressed that peace is the cornerstone of this growth. Without peace, the tourism industry cannot sustain itself, as evidenced by the situation in Manipur.

The Governor emphasized that peace would not only enhance tourism in Manipur but also accelerate employment and economic development. He pointed out that Tripura, with its numerous tourist spots, including the Gomati River, holds significant potential. To further promote tourism, he suggested establishing cottages in small villages and at the block level, as well as developing eco-tourism. He invoked the cultural proverb, “A guest is God,” to highlight the importance of hospitality in tourism.

Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury announced that various programs have been organized across the state to celebrate Tourism Day, with the main event scheduled at Rabindra Bhavan. He mentioned efforts to connect with families affected by recent floods and honor those involved in rescue operations. Additionally, Sourav Ganguly, the brand ambassador for Tripura tourism, has donated Rs10 lakh for flood relief, which has been distributed to victims in every district. Sushanta Chowdhury reiterated that peace is crucial for the tourism industry’s development.

The peace procession saw participation from various tour operators, NGOs, and professionals. The Governor, Tourism Minister, and other dignitaries flagged off the procession, which started from the White Palace and traversed through the city’s streets.
