Agartala, June 15 (H. S.): Two minutes was not given. Tipra Matha Supremo Pradyot Kishore Deb Brman has come under severe criticism for expressing his displeasure with the Governor of Tripura. This is how Pradyot criticized the governor in the incident of firing water cannon and tear gas at the youth organization’s procession in Tipra Matha on Wednesday demanding the use of Roman alphabet in Kakbarak language because, he did not give an opportunity to accept the memorandum of Tipra Youth Organization. Pradyot also discussed the role of the police today.
Various organizations in Tripura have been agitating for a long time to demand the use of Roman script in Kakbarak language. Tipra Matha also joined it. On Wednesday, Tipra Janjati Students Federation, a youth organization of Tipra Matha, marched to hand over a memorandum to the Governor demanding the use of Roman script in Kakbarak language. The procession was blocked by the police in the circuit house area. Because the governor did not give time to meet them. As a result, the youth workers of the agitating Tipra Matha started protesting there. Due to the prolonged agitation, there was a heavy traffic jam on VIP Road. Hence, the police requested them to call off their agitation and go back. The police fired water cannons and tear gas on the youth activists of Tipra Matha when they tried to break the barricade and move forward, refusing the police request. The police also used mild baton charge to bring them under control. In that, several Tipra Matha youth activists including women were injured.
The injured were rescued and admitted to GB Hospital. Opposition leader Animesh Debvarma went to GB Hospital at night after receiving the news and sought treatment for the injured. He accused the youth activists of Tipra Matha of police brutality and demanded punishment of the guilty through investigation. Matha Supremo Pradyot Kishor was very angry at the incident and criticized the Governor of Tripura. He also strongly condemned the role of the police.
According to him, the brutality of the police in the peaceful movement of youth activists of Tipra Matha is highly condemnable. More than twenty youth workers, including women, were seriously injured in police baton charges. Police torture cannot be accepted in the struggle for rights. He warned that if the Tripura government does not take action soon on the use of Roman script in the Kakbarak language, the movement will gain momentum.
On this day, he also criticized the governor. According to him, it did not take two minutes from the Raj Bhavan to hear the demands of the head of the state on the question of youth rights. Youth workers of Tipra Matha wanted to meet the Governor to give a memorandum on the use of Roman script in Kakbarak language. Instead they had to bear the blows of the stick. Therefore, Pradyot questioned the neutrality of the Governor. According to him, it is the responsibility of the governor to maintain impartiality. However, he is doing injustice to the Janjati citizens of Tripura by not giving us the opportunity to meet us again and again. Therefore, Pradyot considered the Governor to act as an impartial envoy of the Government of India.
