Agartala: Nov 05: Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu recently emphasized the importance of driving training for women, highlighting it as a vital skill for empowerment and independence. During a ceremony where he personally handed over certificates to women who had completed a driving training course, the Governor underscored how learning to drive can open doors to numerous opportunities, including employment and mobility. He urged more women to pursue driving skills, pointing out that such training could help them overcome various societal challenges, such as restricted access to transportation.

In his speech, Governor Nallu also suggested that offering driving training to Class IV government employees could improve the efficiency of government services. He further proposed that women home guards be trained in driving to better serve the community. He assured the women who had completed the course that their new skills would earn them respect and recognition, but he also stressed the importance of adhering to traffic rules for safety. Additionally, the Governor advocated for a simpler process for obtaining driving licenses for the children of those who have completed the training.

Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, who attended the event, praised the initiative as a testament to the Double Engine Government’s commitment to women’s empowerment. He criticized previous administrations for making empty promises about women’s empowerment without implementing substantial actions. In contrast, the current government, he said, has made tangible progress, including introducing a 33% reservation for women in various sectors. He further announced that in future recruitment for government driver positions, 33% of the vacancies would be reserved for women. The Minister concluded that no meaningful development is possible without the active participation of women in all aspects of society.
