Agartala: Jan 06: The government has launched the PM Surya Ghar free electricity scheme, aiming to provide almost free electricity to households across the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced this initiative with the goal of promoting people’s welfare and long-term development. Today, Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath discussed the scheme at a camp organized by the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited.
Minister Nath highlighted that Prime Minister Modi foresaw the depletion of resources like coal and gas used for power generation. As a result, the Prime Minister decided to shift the focus to solar power for electricity generation, leading to the launch of the PM Surya Ghar free electricity scheme.
The scheme’s primary objective is to provide nearly free electricity to citizens and promote electricity generation. Currently, electricity is being generated in Palatana, and the scheme will continue until March 2026.
Minister Nath emphasized that any Indian citizen can benefit from this scheme. By utilizing solar energy, individuals can become power producers themselves. Domestic consumers can install solar power projects on their rooftops, balconies, and other suitable locations. Additionally, they have the opportunity to increase their income by selling excess electricity to the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited. The central government is offering a subsidy of up to Rs. 85,800 for this project, and registration requires only a mobile number and a copy of the electricity bill.
Minister Nath also shared an example of a TSECL employee who installed a solar plant at his home. Previously, the employee paid a monthly electricity bill of Rs. 2700, but after installing the solar plant, his bill reduced to Rs. 12. After one year, he will earn revenue by selling surplus electricity. A connection with the power grid is being established after installing the plant, and Minister Nath praised the project as a significant decision by Prime Minister Modi.
