Agartala: Jan 05: The Tripura State Indigenous People’s Liberation Council (Ganamukti Parishad) has announced plans to stage a protest at Raj Bhavan on January 11 from 12 noon to 3 pm. The announcement was made by the council’s leader, Naresh Jamatia, during a press conference held at the CPI(M) state office. The protest is part of the Ganamukti Parishad’s ongoing efforts to press for various demands related to the welfare of the tribal population in the state.
The primary issues highlighted by the Ganamukti Parishad include the immediate passage of the 125th Constitutional Amendment Bill, the repeal of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), and amendments to the Forest Rights Act to grant land rights to all tribal people. The council has been advocating for these changes for some time and is now launching a movement to push for their demands to be addressed.
Jamatia and other leaders of the organization emphasized that the 125th Constitutional Amendment Bill has been pending for several years and must be passed as it will address many issues concerning the state’s tribal communities. The Ganamukti Parishad also strongly pushed for the inclusion of the Kokborok language in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution, believing this will help preserve and promote the indigenous language of Tripura.
Furthermore, the council demanded the repeal of the CAA, which they argue could harm the interests of the tribal people, and stressed the importance of securing land rights for tribals under the Forest Rights Act. As part of their protest, the Ganamukti Parishad will submit a memorandum to Governor Indrasena Reddy Nalluri, seeking solutions to the pressing issues faced by the tribal population. The protest at Raj Bhavan is a significant part of their efforts to amplify these demands.
