Agartala: June 12: In a significant move to enhance the state’s public distribution system, the Food Department of Tripura has acquired five new cargo trucks at a cost of approximately 1 crore 86 lakh taka. Today, Food Minister Sushanta Chowdhury inaugurated these trucks at the Central Store in Arundhunagar, hoisting a green flag to mark the occasion.

Mr. Chowdhury emphasized the department’s commitment to ensuring timely delivery of food grains to all beneficiaries. These newly purchased vehicles are intended to strengthen the distribution system, which currently serves essential items such as rice, pulses, edible oil, and sugar through over 2000 fair price shops across the state. Notably, the trucks were funded from the state government’s own resources.

Addressing the function, the Food Minister highlighted the government’s people-centric approach, aiming for the development of all sections of society. Plans are underway to increase wages for workers employed in various Food Department stores. However, the Minister stressed that workers must fulfill their duties and responsibilities diligently. Their role is crucial in maintaining the efficient functioning of the public distribution system, and the state government consistently prioritizes their interests.

The Food Minister also acknowledged Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to inclusive development, irrespective of caste, religion, or creed. Meanwhile, the department’s special secretary, Ravel Hemendra Kumar, noted that the addition of these five new vehicles brings the total fleet to 22, significantly improving material transportation—from paddy procurement to distribution—across the state.

Other dignitaries present at the function included Tripura Horticulture Corporation Limited Chairman Jawahar Saha, department director Nirmal Adhikari, and additional director Animesh Debbarma.
