Floods Cause Significant Damage to Social Welfare Department in the State

Agartala: Sept 15: The recent floods have caused significant damage to the state’s Social Welfare and Social Education Department, resulting in losses estimated at approximately 50 crore 72 lakh rupees. This information was shared by the department’s director, Tapan Kumar Das, during a press conference on Sunday. Additionally, Cooperative Registrar Dasharath Debbarma provided details of the losses incurred by the Cooperative Department.

The floods, which occurred from August 19 to 24, have severely impacted various government departments. Among the state’s 10,222 Anganwadi centers, 2,025 have sustained damage, with ten being completely destroyed.

Director Tapan Kumar Das highlighted the extensive damage to the Social Welfare and Social Education Department during the press conference. Cooperative Registrar Dasharath Debbarma also addressed the media, detailing the significant losses faced by fair price shops, PACS, and cooperative societies, particularly in the South and Gomati Districts. The South District alone reported losses amounting to 77 lakh rupees, while the total loss for the entire state is estimated at 2 crore 75 lakh rupees.
