Agartala, June 2: Amid the ongoing heavy rainfall and flood-like situation across Tripura, former Chief Minister and MP from West Tripura constituency, Biplab Kumar Deb, on Sunday confirmed that 18 rescue teams have been deployed in West Tripura district to assist those stranded due to waterlogging and flash floods.

In a statement, Deb said he is in constant touch with the state administration and is being regularly updated on the situation. “In view of the heavy rainfall across various parts of the state and the flood-like conditions in some areas, I have been in constant communication with the government regarding every aspect, including rescue operations,” he stated.

The 18 rescue teams deployed include 3 teams from SDRF/NDRF, 2 teams from Assam Rifles, 2 from the Agartala Municipal Corporation, as well as personnel from Fire Services, Scouts and Guides, Civil Volunteers, and NCC Cadets.

Taking to social media, Deb informed that over 1,000 people have been evacuated from severely affected localities such as Sri Lanka Basti, Baldakhal, Pratapgarh, and AMC’s Radhanagar (Ward No. 21). Additionally, around 1,300 families have taken refuge in 28 government relief shelters—24 in Sadar subdivision and 4 in Jirania.

Deb reassured the public, stating, “The administration in other districts is also taking necessary measures according to the evolving situation. There is no need to panic. For any assistance, citizens should contact their local administration.”

He further urged people to stay alert and follow safety advisories as the state continues to grapple with the adverse weather conditions.
