Agartala: In a significant development, first goods carrying train from Bangladesh’s Gangasagar has reached Nishchintapur located in the outskirts of Agartala city. Agartala-Akhaura railway link which connects Bangaldesh’s Eastern parts with North East region through railway is being considered as a big breakthrough project for the state. “The goods train has reached Nishchintapur from Gangasagar covering a distance over 8.1 kilometers. A six member of team was there in the train that had driven the train. The meter gauge portion has been opened for movement of goods”, Executive Engineer to the project Anindra Chowdhury has said. On the passenger movement, he said, “It will take a little time may be a month or two to complete the remaining work such as technical issues pertaining to the Broad Gauge connectivity and other tasks. The meter gauge portion for movement of goods will be inaugurated very soon”. Loco pilot Abdur Rahim who had steered the train to Nishchintapur expressed his happiness for the success of the project and said, “This is the first railway connectivity between the Eastern side of Bangladesh with India. I am very happy to be a part of this historical moment”. Rahim hoped that this railway like will be boost tourism, trade and medical related traveling between both the regions.
