Agartala: Jan 10: Tripura has become a significant hub for both drug and human trafficking, raising serious concerns about national security. Drug traffickers are using the state as a corridor to smuggle drugs, including cannabis, into Bangladesh. Simultaneously, human traffickers are illegally infiltrating Bangladeshi citizens into Tripura’s border areas and facilitating their movement to other states. This illicit activity, which involves creating fake identity documents for Bangladeshi nationals, poses a threat as it could allow members of terrorist organizations to infiltrate India, destabilizing the nation.

Despite the seriousness of these issues, local police appear unaware or inactive, prompting the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to take action. On Friday, the ED conducted a series of raids across Tripura, targeting key individuals suspected of involvement in these illegal activities. One significant raid took place at the residence of Apu Ranjan Das in Bakshanagar Uttar Kalmchoura, where ED officials recovered property documents, cash, and gold ornaments. Das, reportedly under the patronage of the ruling party, fled before the raid, and his family provided no information to the authorities.

The ED also raided the house of Tapas Debnath, an influential figure in the Bishalgarh Ambagan area, and ASI Dhruv Majumdar’s residence, as well as his father-in-law Amal Baidya’s home. Baidya, a former police officer, lives in the police line area of Udaipur. Other raids took place at the homes of Debabrata Dey, Bishnu Tripura, Kamini Debbarma, and Liton Saha. Over 250 CRPF personnel were deployed for security during the operation, which was conducted without the involvement of state police.

Although the ED has not disclosed details, sources suggest that arrests will follow soon, with several influential individuals, including former police officers, under investigation.
