Agartala: Sept 20: Drug traffickers have been using Teliamura railway station as a corridor for their activities, with allegations that the Government Railway Police (GRP) have been lenient in managing the situation. Despite repeated reports to the GRP police station, there are claims that the police have been extorting bribes from drug sellers and traffickers instead of taking action.

In a recent incident, vigilant citizens caught two young women red-handed while smuggling a large quantity of drugs from the Teliamura railway station premises. The women were handed over to the Teliamura police station.

The incident has caused widespread concern, with locals alleging that the GRP police station has been indirectly aiding drug trafficking. The vigilant citizens conducted their own campaign to address the issue, finding drugs in two suspicious trolley bags during a successful operation on Thursday night. When the GRP police station did not respond promptly, the Teliamura police station was informed, leading to the arrest of the two women involved in drug trafficking.

The incident has raised questions about the role of the Teliamura GRP police station and the lack of action from higher authorities. However, the initiative of the locals has been applauded, with campaigners stating that they will continue their efforts to make the area drug-free.
