Agartala, July 13 — Tension and shock gripped the area near Bamutia Police Outpost on Sunday after a dead body was discovered beneath the Guchamura Bridge. A local resident spotted the body floating in the river and immediately alerted the authorities.
Police arrived at the scene and retrieved the body, which was later suspected to be that of 66-year-old Sridhar Sarkar, who had been reported missing since July 9. While formal identification is pending, Sarkar’s family was called to the scene and believes the body to be his. However, due to the advanced state of decomposition, the face was difficult to recognize.
Adding to the mystery, the deceased’s sister has alleged foul play, claiming her brother may have been murdered and dumped in the river. “There are signs that raise serious suspicion. We demand a thorough investigation,” she said.
Police officials have confirmed that an investigation is underway and that the circumstances surrounding the death are being closely examined. While they suspect the body is indeed that of Sridhar Sarkar, they emphasized that the exact cause of death will be determined following a post-mortem examination.
“The body has been sent for autopsy. We will be able to confirm the cause of death only after receiving the medical report,” said an official from Bamutia Police Outpost.
The incident has left the local community deeply disturbed, with many calling for justice and a swift conclusion to the investigation. Authorities have assured the family that all angles, including the possibility of homicide, will be thoroughly probed.
Further updates are awaited as police continue to collect evidence and await the post-mortem findings.
