Agartala: Feb 10: The CPM is suffering from the fear of terror in the polls and the election turning into a farce because, they see the mood of change in people. Therefore, today the representatives of the party will go to the Central Election Commission to demand free and fair elections in Tripura.
CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury and state secretary Jitendra Chowdhury in a press conference today appealed for the use of central paramilitary forces instead of Assam and Gujarat police in the assembly elections in Tripura. They also questioned the role of the Election Commission in using the police in the two BJP-ruled states to conduct elections in Tripura.
On this day, Sitaram said, Tripura today is seeking freedom from BJP’s misrule because, in the last five years there has been a severe impact on people’s livelihood. He claimed that BJP is using money and muscle power to win elections. In that, the law and order situation has faced a lot of problems. According to him, there is a mood of change in people. As a result, support for any party is not predominant.
He said, people are determined to restore peace and establish the rule of law. In this case, the Election Commission should ensure free and fair voting.
His claim that there is a shortage of central paramilitary forces cannot be accepted because only three states are holding assembly elections. In that, it is certainly possible to deploy the required number of central paramilitary forces.
CPM representatives will meet the Chief Election Commissioner in Delhi today to demand his candid, free and fair polls. He claimed that all the non-communal parties have united to defeat the BJP. As a result, the verdict of the election will be decisive. People will establish alternative government in Tripura. In his words, we are trying to ensure that anti-BJP votes are not divided.
CPM state secretary Jitendra Chowdhury said that in Tripura elections, people are divided into two groups. One section is in favor of BJP and another section is towards secular democratic forces. He claimed that BJP’s promises made in 2018 have not been fulfilled. Rather, they have announced their determination to hold the new 2023 assembly elections. He said in a loud voice, BJP has once again made false promises in the manifesto. In that, again the people of Tripura will be confused and disappointed.
Jitendra Chowdhury said today, we have confidence in the Election Commission. Zero poll violence in elections will be possible if the commission wants. In this case, a stricter attitude should be adopted. He said that many efforts have been made to side with Tipra Motha against the BJP. But, it was not possible at this moment. However, it is not possible to tell what the situation will be after the announcement of the election results.
