Agartala: Jan 28: In a heated political climate ahead of the CPI(M) state conference, Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chowdhury has accused the ruling BJP of orchestrating the vandalism of CPI(M) posters and decorations across the city. He raised concerns about the growing political tension, especially with the conference scheduled for January 29th. Chowdhury also claimed that the BJP’s actions reflected an underlying fear of CPI(M) activities, despite the BJP being in power.

Chowdhury pointed out that the CPI(M) had initially requested the government to host the conference at Umakant Maidan, but the authorities denied permission, citing concerns over disrupting students’ studies. However, Chowdhury highlighted an apparent contradiction, pointing out that public events organized by the Home Minister at Umakant School in the past had similarly disrupted students without facing any objections. This, according to him, further signaled the BJP’s unease about the CPI(M) gathering.

As the conference approaches, Chowdhury emphasized the resilience of the people, insisting that the BJP’s attempts to obstruct public gatherings would not succeed. He stated that the CPI(M) meeting would proceed as planned in front of Rabindra Bhavan and urged the police to act impartially, free from any political influence from the BJP.

The allegations of vandalism against CPI(M) posters, which included incidents in front of Chowdhury’s own home, have further fueled the opposition’s accusations against the BJP. Chowdhury expressed disbelief over the BJP’s apparent fear of CPI(M), questioning why the ruling party would be so anxious despite holding power. The situation is unfolding amid a growing sense of political unrest in the state, with the CPI(M) state conference acting as a focal point for rising tensions between the two major political forces.
