Agartala: July 21: While filing nomination papers for the three-tier panchayat elections at the Udaipur Tepania Collective Development Office last Thursday, state Congress party leaders along with party MLA Sudip Roy Barman were attacked by some miscreants of the ruling BJP-backed party. The incident led to protests across the state by the Congress party. A protest march was held in front of Udaipur Jamtala Congress Bhavan on Sunday demanding the arrest and punishment of the culprits in this incident.

The procession marched through Central Road, Old Motor Stand, Mahadev Dighi Par, Newtown Road to the police station. Demands were raised for the arrest and punishment of those involved in the incident. On behalf of the Gomati District Congress Party, District President Titon Pal said that while submitting the nomination papers on behalf of the last Congress party, several party workers, including Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman, were attacked by the social traitors of the ruling party.

Meanwhile, the police have arrested two members of the ruling party on their own charges. Teton Pal said that those arrested were not involved in the day’s incident. Those against whom a case has been filed are arrested and demanded to be punished or said that the party will organize a larger movement in the coming days.
