Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman visited the house of the victim and met the family members

Agartala: August 13: On the night of August 8th, at around 8:30 PM, Shankar Karmakar, a BJP leader, invited Udaypur’s renowned teacher, Abhijit Dey, to his home. Abhijit was allegedly beaten on accusations of making inappropriate remarks to a student. Later, Abhijit’s wife was also summoned and assaulted. On August 10th, Abhijit Dey succumbed to his injuries at GB Hospital.

On Tuesday, Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman visited the residence of the deceased Abhijit Dey, accompanied by the Congress president of Gomati district, Titen Pal, and other party leaders. Abhijit Dey’s wife informed them about the incident. Speaking to reporters, the MLA expressed concern over the state of lawlessness in the region and conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family.

Addressing the police, Sudip Roy Barman stated that such incidents cannot continue unchecked and that accountability is necessary. He further claimed that the student’s family had falsely accused the deceased teacher and demanded over 3 million rupees. He alleged that the refusal to pay this amount led to the tragic incident.
