Agartala: April 23: In a charged political atmosphere, the state of Tripura witnesses fervent debates and strategic maneuvers as the Lok Sabha elections approach. The Reang community, disillusioned with the Communist Party and Congress, has rallied behind the BJP-nominated candidate, Kriti Singh Debbarma, in the East Tripura Lok Sabha seat.

At an election rally held in Raimavalli, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Dev minced no words, asserting that the communists had long neglected the welfare of the people in Gandachar. Their lack of action during their regime left the populace feeling like second-class citizens.

The Chief Minister’s sarcasm was evident as he declared that the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) no longer existed in Tripura. In the 2018 assembly elections, the BJP had dealt a significant blow to the CPM, and now, in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, the people of the state were poised to deliver a decisive blow to the communists and their allies, the Congress.

In a direct attack on former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, a four-time leader of Tripura, Biplab Kumar Dev questioned whether Sarkar had cast his vote using a hand sign in the West Lok Sabha seat. Sarkar’s choice to vote for NOTA (None of the Above) raised eyebrows among curious citizens.

Drawing parallels with Tipra Matha’s former supremo, Pradyot Kishore Debbarman, the Chief Minister emphasized the BJP government’s commitment to the development of Jati Janjatis (indigenous communities). Debbarman’s amicable relationship with the BJP administration further underscored this commitment. As the election fervor intensified, Biplab Kumar Dev called upon the left-leaning Congress to cede ground in Tripura. His appeal resonated with voters, and the BJP’s nominated candidate, Kriti Singh Debbarma, secured a resounding victory in the East Tripura Lok Sabha seat.
