Agartala: April: On Thursday, Tripura Chief Minister Professor Dr. Manik Saha inaugurated several state-of-the-art sports facilities at the Dasarath Deb Sports Complex in Agartala’s Badharghat area, marking the government’s ongoing commitment to advancing the state’s sports sector. These new facilities—Devbhakti Jamatia Synthetic Athletic Turf, Swadeshpriya Nandi Synthetic Hockey Ground, and Pratul Bhattacharya Synthetic Turf Football Ground—were named in honor of three prominent sports figures from Tripura who have passed away. The inauguration event underscored the government’s focus on providing modern infrastructure to nurture local talent.
During the event, Dr. Saha highlighted the importance of discipline and dedication in sports, emphasizing that the legacies of these sports personalities should be preserved for future generations. In a further tribute to the state’s sports legacy, he announced that a newly built 200-bed youth hostel in Ambassa would be named after Madhusudan Saha, another key figure in Tripura’s sports history.
The Chief Minister reiterated the state’s commitment to providing athletes with a supportive environment, citing the example of Padma Shri Olympian gymnast Dipa Karmakar to stress that perseverance and determination lead to success. He also underscored the role of sports in promoting a healthy society, particularly by keeping young people away from harmful habits.
Additionally, Dr. Saha mentioned the government’s plans to establish more advanced sports facilities at Bholagiri in Agartala and to honor former sports figures by dedicating new infrastructure to them. Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy also spoke at the event, outlining the various initiatives aimed at improving sports infrastructure in Tripura. The event was attended by notable figures, including MLA Meena Rani Sarkar and Padma Shri Dipa Karmakar, with families of the deceased sports personalities also being honored.
