Agartala: Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee President Asish Kumar Saha on Sunday said that the Central government was being ignorant towards the Congress’s valid demands of immediate implementation of the Women Reservation Bill and Caste Census to resolve the problems being faced by the OBCs.

According to Saha, the BJP had passed the Bill in the parliament just as an act of show off and befool women of the country.

“The BJP has passed the Bill in such haste because they knew that women voters are a crucial stakeholder in the states where they are in power. Ahead of the elections in five crucial states, the ruling party had been trying portray this Bill as their concern for the women of our society and how they had paved the way for political justice to the women.

But, if they are so concerned, why it is not being implemented straight away”, the Congress leader told an internal party meeting at Students Health Home.

Saha also laid emphasis on the need of Caste Census and reforms in the reservation system. “The Central government is showing no hurry to initiate the process of delimitation. Our party led by Mallikarjun Kharge ji has demanded for Caste Census in the whole country and also promised that if it is elected to power the caste census will be conducted.

The Other Backward Class population of the country is deprived of all the government benefits because of the 50 percent cap on the reservation. We want that a new law is enacted that could override the existing rules and OBCs are also included in the net of social justice”, Saha pointed out.
