Agartala, Oct 24: Tripura Legislative Assembly Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen, 72, who is undergoing treatment at Aster CMI Hospital in Bengaluru, is reported to be in a stable condition and showing steady signs of recovery.
According to the latest medical bulletin issued by Consultant Neurosurgeon Dr. Nirmala S, Sen is breathing independently through a tracheostomy, with his oxygen saturation levels remaining normal. He is being fed via a PEG tube and continues to exhibit gradual neurological improvement under constant monitoring.
Sen was admitted to the hospital on August 11 following a cerebral hemorrhage in the left gangliocapsular region. He had initially undergone a decompressive craniotomy in Tripura before being airlifted to Bengaluru for advanced neurosurgical care under Dr. Ravi Gopal Verma, Director and Lead Consultant, Neurosurgery.
Subsequent procedures included a right frontal external ventricular drain (EVD) on August 12 and a tracheostomy on August 14 to aid respiration. A CT scan conducted on October 2 revealed hydrocephalus, leading to the successful implantation of a programmable ventriculo-peritoneal (VP) shunt.
Doctors have confirmed that once the artificial cranial implant arrives, Sen will undergo a cranioplasty as part of his continued recovery process. His next phase of rehabilitation will include physiotherapy, transcranial magnetic stimulation, and Ayurvedic therapy for comprehensive neuro-rehabilitation.
The Tripura Legislative Assembly Secretariat, citing the hospital’s report, stated that Sen remains under close medical observation and is responding positively to treatment. His steady progress has brought relief to well-wishers and political colleagues across the state, who continue to pray for his full recovery.
