Agartala: Dec 03: Visa services to Bangladesh from Agartala have been suspended due to security concerns, as announced by the Bangladesh High Commissioner today. This suspension affects all visa and consular services at the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Agartala, which will remain closed until further notice.
The decision comes amid rising tensions between India and Bangladesh, particularly after the interim government in Bangladesh was established. There have been concerns over attacks on minorities, especially Hindus, in Bangladesh, which has led to protests in India.
One such protest in Agartala turned violent, with protesters breaching the premises of the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission. The Indian government has condemned the incident, calling it “deeply regrettable” and emphasizing that diplomatic and consular properties should not be targeted under any circumstances.
