In a major breakthrough, Sonamura Police arrested Babul Miah along with a firearm and ammunition from the Shrimantapur area. The accused, a resident of Shrimantapur under Sonamura subdivision, was detained following a joint operation conducted by the Sonamura Police and the Border Security Force (BSF).
According to police sources, the raid was carried out based on a secret tip-off regarding illegal possession of firearms in the Bhugjur area under the Shrimantapur Panchayat. Acting swiftly on the information, a combined team of BSF personnel and Sonamura Police launched a surprise search operation at the residence of Babul Miah.
During the initial phase of the raid, Babul Miah and his wife, Morsheda Begum, reportedly engaged in a physical scuffle with the police team in an attempt to obstruct the operation. Despite the resistance, the officers managed to gain control of the situation. Through prompt and coordinated action, both the accused and his wife were detained by the security personnel.
Subsequently, the search team recovered a firearm from the house, along with ammunition believed to be linked to illegal activities in the region. The seized weapon has been taken into custody for forensic examination, and further investigation is underway to identify any possible network or associates involved in the possession or circulation of illegal arms.
Officials stated that strict action will be taken against anyone involved in such unlawful activities, as the authorities remain vigilant against threats to public safety. The arrest has created a significant impact in the locality, underscoring the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to curb criminal activities and maintain peace in the border-adjacent areas of Sonamura.
