With the joint initiative of ICAR- NBPGR and KVK Gomati Tripura a mega awareness cum training programme has been conducted here in Gandacherra today. As per the report, ICAR – National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources, Regional Station, Umiam, in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Amar Pur, Gomati Tripura this awareness cum training programme on Plant Genetic Resources in Agri-Horticultural crops has been organized at Tarini Para ADC Village in Gandacherra, Dhalai Tripura on 16th of March 2023. The programme was attended by Dr. Julius Uchoi, Scientist, and officer-in-charge, ICAR-NBPGR, Regional Station, Umiam, Meghalaya, Dr. Binoy Tripura, Subject Matter Specialist (Agril. Extension), Mr. Sachindra Nath Banik Subject Matter Specialist (Horticulture) and Mr. Chitragupta Murasing, Plant Protection expert of Krishi Vigyan Kendra Gomati, Amarpur and many distinguished dignitaries. A total of 200 numbers of farmers belonging to Reang and Tripura tribal communities have actively participated and have been benefitted under this programme. In this programme, the coordinator Dr. Julius Uchoi has delivered a lecture on Plant Genetic Resources (PGR) and its different aspects of features. The farmers who have taken participation in this significant programme have obtained many important knowledges over this PGR which will assist them in their project implementations ahead. The programme participants have interacted face to face with the concerned authorities regarding the importance of PGR, its conservation and utilization for present and future in agriculture. Discussion on recent innovations in agriculture and allied, scope, and prospects of spice cultivation, pest and diseases of various crops and their management were also part of this mega programme. At the end of the programme a set of agricultural tools such as spade and sickle were distributed among the farmers to boost their project implementations in future.
