Elderline 14587 is a toll-free national helpline dedicated to providing support and assistance to senior citizens aged 60 years and above across India. The service is completely free of cost and is operated under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare and Social Education, Government of Tripura. In Tripura, the responsibility of implementing the Elderline service has been entrusted to GTI Infotel Pvt. Ltd.
In this context, one of Tripura’s well-known social, cultural, and sports organisations, Agiye Chalo Sangha, organised its Annual General Meeting (AGM) today at the Mela Ground in Agartala. Around 300 members of the organisation attended the meeting, making it a significant gathering. A key highlight of the AGM was a special awareness camp organised to promote understanding and outreach of the Elderline 14587 service among members and the wider community.
During the awareness session, the Elderline team explained the objectives and functioning of the helpline. Elderline 14587 offers senior citizens access to emotional support, healthcare-related guidance, social assistance, and help in times of distress. The service aims to ensure dignity, safety, and well-being of elderly persons by connecting them with appropriate resources and timely support.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Secretary of Agiye Chalo Sangha addressed the members and expressed appreciation to the Elderline team for presenting detailed information about this noble initiative. He urged members to actively cooperate in spreading awareness and standing beside senior citizens in society. He also assured full support from the organisation to strengthen this initiative at the grassroots level.
The Tripura Elderline team extended heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the executive committee and all members of Agiye Chalo Sangha for their cooperation and commitment towards this important social responsibility. Such collaborative efforts for the welfare of senior citizens are expected to continue in the future, setting an inspiring example for other organisations to follow.
