Assam Police Seize Heroin Worth Rs 12.5 Crore, Arrest 5 Smugglers

Agartala: June 28:  In a significant development in their ongoing anti-drug efforts, the Cachar Police recently confiscated a substantial quantity of heroin valued at Rs 12.5 crore. The operation resulted in the arrest of five suspected drug traffickers.

Acting on credible information, the Cachar Police conducted targeted raids across several areas, including Salchapara, Katigora, Digarkhal, and Hilerara. During these operations, law enforcement officers apprehended the suspects and discovered a total of 2 kg 44 grams of heroin concealed within 200 soap boxes.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Afjal Hussain, Akhtar Hussain, Ram Mua, Arbil Kumar, and Mangalali. The market value of the seized heroin was confirmed by the Cachar Police Superintendent. Additionally, two vehicles used by the smugglers were seized.

Currently, the detained drug traffickers are undergoing interrogation at the police station. Local and police sources indicate that the heroin was transported into the Cachar district from outside the state for illicit sale.
