Agartala:, May 13: Purbi Nath, a Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) agent responsible for collecting money from the public at the Panisagar West Sub Post Office, is facing accusations of fraud. According to local reports, she is alleged to have embezzled approximately 15 lakh rupees.
The controversy came to light when concerned villagers visited the Panisagar West Sub Post Office to verify their deposits. An employee revealed that although there were official seals and green-stamped passbooks, the deposited funds were missing when the system was accessed.
Purbi Nath has assured depositors that she will return the money by May 15th. However, pressure is mounting on the government department to recover the funds with police assistance. Depositors, who entrusted 70 to 75 thousand rupees each, have threatened strict action if the funds are not returned as promised.
The situation remains tense as the deadline approaches, leaving the community anxious about the fate of their hard-earned savings. Whether Purbi Nath fulfills her commitment by May 15th remains uncertain.
