Agartala: Sept 01: Air service from Agartala to Bangladesh will start from September 17. On September 17, passenger air traffic will officially start from Agartala Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport to Chittagong Shah Amanat Airport.
This news has been informed by Airport Authority of India sources. Incidentally, during Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to Tripura in 2012, Bangladesh government aircraft landed directly at Agartala Airport from Bangladesh. It was the first international flight to land at Agartala airport. Since then Agartala Airport is ready to take off and land international flights and the issue of starting international flight services came up in the discussion. But due to various adversities, the air transport system of the state did not improve much for some years. Later in 2018, after the first BJP coalition government came to power in Tripura, the then Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb first announced the launch of air service from Agartala to Bangladesh Chittagong. After the infrastructure development of the Agartala Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport, the two countries started preparing for the launch of international air services in the last few months. Finally, on September 17 (2023), it is reported that the air service will be officially launched. Sources claim that the fare from Agartala to Chittagong air route may be four to four and a half thousand taka. A tweet from the Airports Authority of India regarding the launch of Agartala Chittagong flight from September 17 is already doing the rounds on social media.
