Tripura govt presents people-oriented and self-reliant budget: Finance Minister

Agartala: Mar 01: The Tripura Legislative Assembly commenced its 3-day Budget session in the state capital, Agartala, today. Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy presented the deficit budget for the financial year 2024-25, amounting to Rs410.69 crore. The total budget allocation for this fiscal year stands at Rs27,804.67 crore. Notably, the capital expenditure projection of Rs 6,633.80 crores reflects a substantial 24.26% increase compared to the revised estimate for the financial year 2023-24.

Minister Roy emphasized that the budget is people-oriented and self-reliant. During a press conference, he described it as inclusive, futuristic, and growth-oriented, catering to a diverse range of stakeholders. The provisions benefit various segments, including women, students, youth, transgender individuals, tribals, scheduled castes, OBCs, minorities, employees, pensioners, and the general public.

The state’s economy is witnessing robust growth, with estimated revenue tax at Rs 3,748 crore and non-tax revenue at Rs 475 crore. Notable allocations include Rs 1,721.94 crore for the agriculture sector (a 19.88% increase from 2023-24), Rs 5,508.63 crore for education (an 11.54% increase), and ₹1,726.23 crore for health.

Furthermore, the budget outlines strategic initiatives, including the establishment of two new agricultural sub-divisions in Yubarajnagar (North Tripura) and Old Agartala (West Tripura). Additionally, a residue testing lab and a germplasm conservation centre will be set up at the State Agricultural Research Centre, Arundhuti Nagar, at a cost of Rs 10.00 crore. Moreover, the financial year 2024-25 will witness the construction of eight new agricultural research and development centres at a total cost of Rs 23.71 crore.

In the education sector, 21 secondary schools will receive new buildings, while the establishment of Mata Tripurasundari Open University in Udaipur through private initiative aims to enhance educational opportunities. Additionally, a 200-bed multi-care health unit will be established at the IGM and GB Hospital complex.

The Tripura government’s budget reflects a commitment to progress, welfare, and sustainable development across various domains, fostering a brighter future for its citizens.
