Agartala: Feb 12: Amidst the ongoing statewide strike initiated by the Tipra Motha student organization TISF, former TIPRA Motha chief Pradyot Kishore Debbarman has emerged as a key figure in the debate over the use of Roman script in Madhyamik and Higher Secondary examinations. Pradyot, who has chosen to remain anonymous, claims to have received assurances from both state and central authorities regarding students’ language choices during these crucial exams.

In a statement released via social media from New Delhi, Pradyot emphasized the importance of linguistic diversity. He advocated for allowing both Bengali and Roman scripts in the examinations, asserting that language is intricately tied to a nation’s identity. “We cannot compromise on the future of our next generation,” he asserted.

The ongoing strike in Tripura has been fueled by this very issue, and Pradyot urged protesters to maintain peace. “Unrest will yield no results,” he cautioned, emphasizing the power of unity in achieving meaningful change.

Pradyot’s claims of assurance from the highest authorities indicate that students will not be compelled to take the examination in any specific language. Instead, they will have the freedom to choose the language they are most comfortable with.

However, Pradyot also issued a warning to the agitators: the strike will only be withdrawn once an official announcement is made by the state government. Until then he encourages peaceful persistence in pursuit of their cause.
