Agartala: Dec 12: TSR Rifleman Sukanta Das, accused in murder case of two colleagues over a leave dispute, was sentenced to lifetime imprisonment by a Bishalgarh court. Bishalgarh Additional Sessions Judge Debashish Kar gave this verdict on Tuesday.
Incidentally, on December 4, 2021, the killing spree went on at the TSR camp. Two TSR jawans were injured in the firing by their colleague. Later, the accused TSR jawan surrendered to the police station with weapons in the incident at ONGC’s gas gathering station at Konabon in Sepahizala district.
The body of Subedar Marka Singh Jamatia was mangled and another TSR Naik Subedar Kiran Jamatia was also shot by TSR Rifleman Sukanta Das at Konabon Gas Gathering Station at around 9:30 am that day. TSR Rifleman Sukanta Das was suffering from severe depression as his leave application was not granted. As a result of which he committed the fatal incident. Meanwhile, Sukanta Das surrendered with weapons after being shot at by two colleagues and went to Madhupur police station.
TSR commandant Rangalal Debbarma filed a written case against Sukanta Das in Madhupur police station. A case was registered against him under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code. Since then the investigation process started. In the said case, the trial process was completed by keeping the accused in jail.
Bishalgarh Additional Sessions Judge Debashish Kar delivered the final verdict today. The accused was convicted today after a total of 38 witnesses testified. Under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code, Sukanta was sentenced to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50,000, if not paid ordered another year of rigorous imprisonment.
