NIA operation: 20 people arrested in charges of human trafficking

Agartala, November 8: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) in collaboration with the BSF has arrested more than 20 persons for their alleged involvement in human trafficking in Tripura. The operation which started on Tuesday night continued till Wednesday morning in the border area.

In this regard, a police official said that the Tripura police did not have any information before the operation. Raids were carried out in various parts of the state yesterday, but the local police were not involved in the operation and details of the operation were limited to top cops.

Apart from Tripura, the NIA has conducted raids in ten states including Assam, West Bengal, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Haryana, Puducherry, Rajasthan and Jammu and Kashmir, sources said.

In this regard, a police official also said that the accused arrested during the operation will be booked in a special NIA court. No one will be handed over to the local police.
