Agartala: In a significant development, the Tripura Rehabilitation Plantation Corporation Limited (TRPCL) has formally partnered with a startup from IIT Bhubaneshwar. The aim of this collaboration is to meet the energy requirements of remote tribal hamlets in Tripura and to create sustainable livelihood opportunities in these isolated regions. Patal Kanya Jamatia, the Chairman of TRPCL, spoke exclusively to our reporter, expressing the project’s inspiration from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for delivering essential services to the farthest corners of the country.

Jamatia emphasized the pivotal role that Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) play in technological advancement and how this technology could be harnessed to generate livelihood opportunities and build a more sustainable future for the people living in the most remote areas of the state. “IITs in India are at the forefront of technological innovation, and we believe that this technology can directly benefit the people in the remotest corners of our state, providing hope for a brighter future,” said Jamatia.

According to Jamatia, an extensive needs assessment survey will soon be conducted to determine the precise technological interventions required to achieve TRPCL’s objectives. “Based on the results of this survey, we will initiate our work. The IIT Bhubaneshwar startup, known as KARMA tech, specializes in renewable energy solutions, and with their support, we will make this technology accessible to the economically disadvantaged villagers. Our goal is to ensure that no area is left without access to reliable power,” she emphasized.

Jamatia also highlighted that in addition to renewable energy, creating sustainable livelihood opportunities is another fundamental aspect of the project. “Tribal areas often have limited opportunities for livelihood, and we are committed to addressing this issue. During the needs assessment survey, we will also explore ways to improve the livelihood sector. I am hopeful that technology and administrative efforts will work together to address the various challenges faced by rural communities,” she added.
