Agartala, September 5: Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Tuesday said that proper and quality education shows the way forward to the country, and teachers play a crucial role in the development of such education.
Addressing the 62nd Teacher’s Day celebration at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala, organized by the Education Department, Dr. Saha said, “Students and teachers eagerly wait to celebrate this day in schools and colleges. When the then President Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was asked to celebrate his birthday, he insisted that he was a teacher, and this day should be dedicated to teachers. Since then, we have been celebrating Teachers’ Day. A teacher can inspire others and they play key role in promoting quality education”
Dr. Saha also acknowledged that mothers are the best teachers, serving as the first educators from the very beginning.
“PM Modi has emphasized that those with knowledge can propel our country forward. After 34 years, the National Education Policy has been implemented in the country. We should express our gratitude to PM Modi for this. In Tripura, we have also adopted the NEP. We take pride in having a Prime Minister like him who tirelessly working for our development. Proper and quality education sets the course for our nation, and teachers are vital catalysts in achieving that education. They are the backbone of society. I extend my congratulations to all the teachers on this special occasion of Teacher’s Day,” Dr. Saha added.
He further said that the current Tripura government is committed to providing quality education in the state, as evidenced by the allocation of funds in the state budget for the 2023-24 fiscal year.
“Our government is dedicated to the development of education in the state. We have also decided to establish one model school in each Rural Development Block, with an allocation of Rs 50 crore. We are introducing numerous initiatives for the benefit of students in Tripura,” Dr. Saha added.
Four prominent personalities of the state were honored with special awards on this day for their special contribution in fulfilling their professional duties.
Among these, distinguished physician Dr. Kanak Narayan Bhattacharya and his team from Agartala Government Medical College were awarded “Pandit Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar Samman 2023”.
Late Nagendra Jamatia was honored with “Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Samman 2023” (posthumously) for his special contribution to society. The honor was handed over to his son Dr. Kahmanuk Jamatia.
Eminent personality Sahisnu Jamatia was conferred with “Maharani Tulsibati Samman- 2023”. Along with this, renowned social activist Bhishma Gupta was honored with “Dr. Shyamaprasad Mukherjee Honor – 2023”.
Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy, AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder, School Education Department Special Secretary Revel Hemendra Kumar, Higher Education Department Director NC Sharma and other distinguished guests were present on the occasion.
