Agartala June 30: A delegation of the Left Front went to Kumarghat on Friday to learn about the unintentional massacre that took place at Kumarghat around Ulto Rath. Politburo member Manik Sarkar, Left Front convener Narayan Kar, former minister Tapan Chakraborty and several others present in the delegation. On this day, they went to Kumarghat and rushed to the accident site at Block Chowmuhani.
Then they rushed to Kumarghat police station and Vidyut Nigam office and talked to the officials in charge of the local power corporation office. Kumarghat ISKCON temple authorities applied for the chariot, officials said. On behalf of Vidyut Nigam, the application was accepted and permission was granted as per the road map of the temple authority. And accordingly the power lines of that road were shut down during the pulling of chariots on chariot day and vice versa. But on the day of Rath, the chariot is drawn through that road, but on the day of Rath, instead of taking the chariot through that road, the chariot takes a turn through the road with Block Choumhani. As a result, some local people started shouting before the incident that there was a possibility of the top of the chariot getting caught in the electric wire.
But those who were pulling the chariot did not listen to the words of the natives. As a result of which the officials informed Politburo member Manik Sarkar that this was an accident. Similarly, when informed about the incident from the police, the OC of Kumarghat police station admitted that the chariot was taken on the opposite road, which was not supposed to be taken on that road. But still the chariot was taken. This happened even because the top of the chariot was made of metal. In view of this incident, a person named Pankaj Das filed a case in the police station. The OC said that the police are investigating the incident with the specific case. Later, the Left Front delegation met the families of the deceased and expressed their condolences and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
