Agartala: June 07: In Agartala today, a significant development unfolded as 56 tribal organisations initiated a dharna, demanding a momentous change for the tribal language of Tripura. The protesters fervently called for the adoption of the Roman script for Kokborok, the indigenous language of the state. Currently written in the Bangla script, this demand has long been a contentious and highly debated political issue.
Mebar Kumar Jamatia, former minister and leader of Tipra Matha, led the sit-in on that day. He said that people have been making this demand for the last 50 years. A language commission has been constituted for this demand during the Congress government.
This report was made in 1992-93. According to the report, 80 percent of the people and the people want the Roman skip. But even then the previous Left Front government did not implement the Roman Skip. Which is very unfortunate said Mebar Kumar Jamatia. It is not right to politicize the language commission report like this. Demanded the government to immediately implement the language commission report. A protesting youth said that if the government does not give importance to this demand, then the movement will go out of bounds. The movement will continue from Dharmanagar to Sabrum. Because since 1967, the people of Janjati section have been demanding this. So that the government fulfills this demand quickly. This rally will be held from 11 am to 4 pm today at North Gate area.
