Agartala, October 1: The Agartala Municipal Corporation on Thursday launched task force vehicles to strengthen sanitation and cleanliness operations in the Tripura capital, with Mayor Dipak Majumder calling for sustained efforts by sanitation workers and greater cooperation from citizens.
Majumder made the appeal while addressing a special programme organised at the Corporation premises here. The event, titled ‘Safai Mitra Suraksha Shibir’ and ‘Flagging Off of Task Force Vehicles’, was aimed at recognising the contribution of sanitation workers, promoting their safety and improving civic sanitation services.
Majumder, Deputy Mayor Manika Das Dutta, Additional Commissioner Mihir Kanti Ghosh and other senior officials inaugurated the programme by lighting a ceremonial lamp.
Addressing the gathering, Majumder thanked sanitation workers for discharging their duties regularly, including under challenging working conditions.
“The cleanliness of Agartala is possible only because of the dedication and hard work of our sanitation workers. Their contribution is invaluable,” he said.
The Mayor said sanitation workers form an important part of the civic administration’s efforts to maintain hygiene and provide a healthy environment for residents.
He urged them to continue working in coordination with the municipal authorities and contribute towards improving sanitation standards across the city.
Majumder also appealed to residents to take responsibility for maintaining cleanliness in their surroundings and public places.
Citizens should dispose of waste at designated locations and follow the cleanliness guidelines issued by the Corporation, he said.
The Mayor stressed that the civic administration’s efforts would have limited impact without the active cooperation of residents.
“Public participation is equally important in ensuring a clean and healthy Agartala,” Majumder said.
The Safai Mitra Suraksha Shibir also focused on the safety, protection and dignity of sanitation workers engaged in essential civic services.
Officials said the initiative was intended to strengthen the sanitation system while creating greater awareness about the safety requirements of workers involved in maintaining the city’s cleanliness.
The task force vehicles flagged off at the programme are expected to augment the Corporation’s sanitation operations and facilitate quicker response to cleanliness-related requirements in different parts of Agartala.
Deputy Mayor Das Dutta and other officials also emphasised the need for coordinated efforts involving sanitation workers, civic authorities and citizens.
The organisers said continued cooperation among all stakeholders would help improve sanitation services, promote public hygiene and strengthen efforts to maintain a cleaner and healthier Agartala.
