Agartala, October 1: The Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) has initiated discussions with Tata Trusts for a proposed Rs 15-crore programme to strengthen livelihood activities and related infrastructure for rural households in three Aspirational Blocks of the state, officials said.
The proposed initiative will be implemented in Dasda and Damcherra in North Tripura and Ganganagar in Dhalai district, subject to finalisation of the programme framework and signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
TRLM CEO Tarit Kanti Chakma held a video conference with representatives of Tata Trusts on Wednesday to discuss the proposed partnership and examine possible areas of intervention.
Officials said the programme is proposed to run from January 2027 to November 2031. Tata Trusts is expected to provide an estimated financial outlay of around Rs 15 crore during the proposed period.
The initiative is expected to directly cover approximately 3,500 rural households across the three blocks. A further 1,500 households are proposed to be brought within its ambit through convergence with existing TRLM livelihood interventions.
The proposed programme will focus on income-generating activities suited to rural households, particularly piggery, duckery and fishery.
In addition to livelihood assistance, the programme will support the creation or strengthening of infrastructure needed by beneficiaries to carry out these activities, officials said.
The infrastructure component is intended to provide beneficiaries with the facilities and support required to sustain livelihood activities and improve their income-generation potential.
Officials said convergence with TRLM programmes would be an important feature of the proposed collaboration. It would enable the initiative to complement ongoing interventions and extend its potential reach to additional households.
During Wednesday’s virtual meeting, officials from TRLM and Tata Trusts discussed the proposed areas of work, beneficiary coverage and the broad implementation mechanism.
Further discussions will be held to determine the operational details of the programme, including the roles of the two organisations and the manner in which beneficiaries will be identified and supported.
The two sides will also finalise the nature of infrastructure to be created and the livelihood activities to receive assistance before the proposed MoU is signed.
Officials clarified that the partnership has not yet been formally concluded and that the detailed modalities are still being worked out.
If finalised, the programme will operate for nearly five years in the three identified Aspirational Blocks and seek to support rural households through livelihood promotion and infrastructure development.
The proposed collaboration is aimed at expanding sustainable income opportunities and improving convergence between institutional support and existing rural livelihood interventions in Tripura, officials said.
