The Tripura government has extended Jharna Debbarma’s tenure as Chairperson of the Tripura State Commission for Women (TCW) for another three years and filled three vacant positions in the Commission with fresh appointments.
The Education (Social Welfare & Social Education) Department issued the notification on September 25, 2026, with Debbarma’s new term taking effect from September 24, 2026.
Sujata Deb, Megha Paul (Chowdhury) and Mampi Das have been appointed as members of the Commission against the existing vacancies. Each member will hold office for three years from the date of assuming charge.
Debbarma’s reappointment has been made under Section 6(iv) of the relevant Gazette Notification and the Tripura Commission for Women Rules, 2008. The provisions govern the service conditions of the Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson and members of the Commission.
The appointment orders were issued by the Special Secretary to the Government of Tripura and circulated among senior constitutional and administrative authorities. These include the Governor, Chief Minister, Chief Secretary and Director General of Police, along with officials of the Social Welfare and Social Education Department.
The latest administrative decision changes the composition of the women’s rights body while retaining its existing chairperson. The Commission deals with matters relating to women’s rights, welfare, safety and empowerment and takes up grievances and other issues affecting women across the state.
The three new members will join the Commission as it continues its statutory responsibilities, including awareness and welfare-related initiatives and addressing complaints and concerns concerning women.
The government’s reconstitution order is aimed at filling the vacant positions and ensuring the Commission has a full complement of members to carry out its responsibilities.
With Debbarma continuing as Chairperson and three new members joining the body, the reconstituted Commission will now proceed with its work on women-related issues across Tripura.
