Sabroom, Tripura: Several residents of Sabroom Nagar Panchayat have alleged that their applications under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) were rejected without prior notification or an opportunity to rectify errors or provide missing information.
According to the affected residents, several applications submitted under the housing scheme were rejected by the Nagar Panchayat after discrepancies or incomplete details were reportedly found in the application forms. The applicants claim they were not contacted by the concerned officials before their applications were cancelled.
Residents allege that instead of being informed about deficiencies and given an opportunity to make necessary corrections, their applications were rejected outright. They say the decision has left applicants without clear information about the reasons for rejection, despite their expectations of receiving assistance under the government housing scheme.
The issue has reportedly caused frustration among local residents, particularly those who believe they fulfil the eligibility requirements for PMAY benefits. Some applicants have questioned the functioning of the concerned personnel and alleged that greater care, accountability and sensitivity should have been maintained while processing applications under a major welfare programme.
Residents have also raised questions about the role of elected representatives and Panchayat members, alleging that their grievances were not adequately addressed. They have described the situation as unfair and called for a transparent review of rejected applications.
The affected applicants are demanding that the Nagar Panchayat review all rejected applications and provide written reasons for each rejection. They have also urged authorities to allow applicants whose forms contain correctable errors to submit the necessary documents or make corrections, wherever permitted under the applicable rules.
Residents are further seeking clarification on whether proper notification procedures were followed before the applications were cancelled. They have urged the authorities to examine the matter and ensure that eligible beneficiaries are not excluded due to administrative errors, incomplete communication or procedural lapses.
The applicants are now seeking a clear explanation from the authorities on why their applications were allegedly rejected without prior notice and why they were not given an opportunity to rectify deficiencies before rejection.
The allegations are yet to be independently verified. A response from the Sabroom Nagar Panchayat and the concerned government authorities is awaited.
