Agartala: The State Election Commission of Tripura on Monday announced the schedule for the General Elections to the TTAADC Village Committees, 2026, setting September 28 as the polling date and October 5 for counting of votes.
According to State Election Commissioner Dr. P. K. Chakraborty, the formal electoral process will begin with the issuance of the election notification in September. The last date for filing nomination papers is September 8, with nominations to be accepted between 11 am and 3 pm.
The scrutiny of nomination papers will be conducted on September 9, while candidates will have the option to withdraw their nominations until 3 pm on September 11.
Polling for the Village Committee elections will be held on September 28 from 7 am to 4 pm. If re-polling becomes necessary at any polling station, it will be conducted on October 3.
The counting of votes will take place on October 5, following which the results and names of the winning candidates will be declared.
The Commission said adequate security and preventive measures would be put in place well ahead of polling to ensure free, fair and peaceful elections. It said arrangements were being made to create a conducive environment and instil confidence among voters and candidates.
As part of the preparations, the State Election Commission held meetings with the Police Administration and reviewed the prevailing law-and-order situation, along with security arrangements required during polling.
According to the Commission, the police have assured adequate security arrangements for the smooth and peaceful conduct of the Village Committee elections across the state.
Chakraborty said the election schedule was finalised after taking into consideration several factors, including Board examinations, major festivals and the prevailing law-and-order situation.
The elections will be conducted on the basis of the final electoral roll published on June 15. According to the voter list, a total of 9,61,978 electors are eligible to vote in the Village Committee elections across Tripura.
Of the total electorate, 4,82,041 are male voters and 4,79,930 are female voters, while six voters belong to the third-gender category.
With the election calendar now announced, candidates, political parties, election officials and voters are expected to begin preparations for the nomination, campaigning and polling phases.
