Tripura Reviews Progress of Proposed Ayurvedic Medicine Manufacturing Unit at Sabroom

Agartala, July 24: In a major step towards strengthening the AYUSH healthcare system in Tripura, a joint preliminary supervisory visit was conducted at the Integrated AYUSH Hospital (IAH) in Sabroom, South Tripura, to review the progress of the proposed Ayurvedic Medicine Manufacturing Unit.

The inspection was carried out on Thursday under the directions of the Health and Family Welfare Department as part of the state’s efforts to expand AYUSH infrastructure and promote self-reliance in the production of Ayurvedic medicines.

The multidisciplinary inspection team was chaired by the Branch Officer (Ayurved), Directorate of Health Services (DHS). It included senior officials from the National AYUSH Mission (NAM), Deputy Drug Controller’s Office, State Drug Testing Laboratory (SDTL), Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM), the Sub-Divisional Medical Officer (SDMO) of Sabroom Sub-Divisional Hospital and members of the South District AYUSH team.

During the visit, officials carried out a comprehensive assessment of the infrastructure and reviewed the preparedness of the proposed manufacturing facility. Discussions focused on quality standards, regulatory compliance, space utilisation, production infrastructure and other technical requirements necessary for setting up a modern Ayurvedic medicine manufacturing unit.

Officials said the proposed facility is expected to play a significant role in ensuring a steady supply of quality-assured Ayurvedic medicines within the state. The unit is also aimed at reducing Tripura’s dependence on medicines procured from outside the state while strengthening local production capabilities.

The manufacturing unit is expected to support the government’s broader objective of promoting indigenous healthcare systems and improving the availability of affordable Ayurvedic medicines through a reliable and sustainable supply chain.

According to officials, the project will also contribute to strengthening the overall AYUSH healthcare delivery system by ensuring timely availability of medicines in government health institutions and expanding access to traditional healthcare services across Tripura.

The National AYUSH Mission, Tripura, reiterated its commitment to enhancing AYUSH infrastructure and improving healthcare accessibility through strategic investments in facilities, manpower and medicine production. Officials said initiatives such as the proposed manufacturing unit would not only improve the quality of AYUSH services but also reinforce the state’s vision of providing affordable, accessible and quality healthcare to people while promoting self-reliance in the production of Ayurvedic medicines.
