The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U) 2.0 received a significant boost in Agartala on Saturday as work orders were distributed to 28 beneficiaries in Ward No. 18 of the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC). The initiative marks an important step in expanding affordable housing under the scheme and forms part of the first Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the 2026–27 financial year, reflecting the government’s continued commitment to ensuring “Housing for All.”
The work order distribution programme was presided over by BJP corporator Abhishek Dutta, who said that a total of 34 families from the ward had been selected under PMAY-U 2.0. While 28 beneficiaries are now ready to begin construction after receiving formal work orders, six others are yet to commence building due to financial constraints. He expressed confidence that they too would soon be able to start construction with the necessary support.
Addressing the gathering, Dutta stressed that the benefits of the housing scheme are being provided to all eligible citizens without any political discrimination. He said the objective of the government is to ensure that every deserving family has access to safe, permanent housing irrespective of political affiliation, thereby promoting transparency and inclusivity in welfare delivery.
Highlighting the enhanced financial assistance under PMAY-U 2.0, the corporator said each beneficiary will now receive ₹2.5 lakh, a substantial increase from the earlier assistance of ₹1.66 lakh. The amount will be released in four instalments—two instalments of ₹50,000 each followed by two instalments of ₹75,000 each. Of the total financial assistance, ₹2.25 lakh will be provided by the Central Government, while the Tripura Government will contribute ₹25,000 per beneficiary.
Reviewing the progress of the housing programme in Ward No. 18, Dutta noted that only one house had been sanctioned under the fifth DPR before the BJP assumed office in the Agartala Municipal Corporation. Since then, 36 houses were approved under the sixth DPR, followed by 28 houses under the seventh DPR, indicating a steady expansion in housing coverage and implementation.
The distribution of work orders is expected to accelerate the pace of urban housing development in Bardowali and improve the living standards of economically weaker families. The initiative also reinforces the government’s broader vision of providing affordable housing and ensuring dignified living conditions for every eligible urban household under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0.
