Agartala, July 4: Tripura has recorded a poor performance in the utilisation of the Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) funds, with only one project completed despite recommendations for over 100 development works, according to data available on the Centre’s Empowered India digital platform.

The data, updated till April 2026, shows that a total of Rs 41.7 crore has been allocated to Tripura’s three Members of Parliament under MPLADS. Of this, only Rs 9.5 crore, or 22.78 per cent, has been utilised. Although around 100 development projects have been recommended, only one project has been completed so far.

Among 36 states and Union Territories, Tripura ranks 22nd in MPLADS fund utilisation.

Nationally, Rs 703 crore has been allocated under the scheme, of which Rs 520 crore has been utilised, translating into an overall utilisation rate of 74 per cent. Across the country, 4,413 projects have been completed.

Among Tripura’s parliamentarians, East Tripura Lok Sabha MP Kriti Devi Debbarman recorded the lowest utilisation. She was allocated Rs 14.7 crore, but only Rs 1.9 crore (12.7 per cent) has been spent. She recommended 49 projects, none of which have been completed.

West Tripura MP and former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb also received Rs 14.7 crore under MPLADS. His utilisation stands at 31.1 per cent, amounting to Rs 4.6 crore. While 29 projects have been recommended, none has been completed.

Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee is the only parliamentarian from Tripura to have completed a project under the scheme. Out of an allocation of Rs 12.3 crore, he has utilised Rs 3.5 crore, or 24.9 per cent. He recommended 56 projects, with one project completed.

The figures indicate that while project recommendations have been made across all three constituencies, execution remains slow, resulting in low fund utilisation and minimal completion of development works under the MPLADS scheme in the state.
