Agartala, June 24: Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Tuesday announced that tourism development projects worth nearly ₹550 crore are currently underway across Tripura and assured that all major initiatives would be completed before the next Assembly elections.

Addressing reporters at the Civil Secretariat, the minister said the state government is giving top priority to tourism infrastructure development with the objective of transforming Tripura into a prominent tourist destination in the Northeast. He stated that several flagship projects are progressing steadily and are expected to significantly boost tourism, employment generation, and economic growth in the state.

Among the key projects, Chowdhury highlighted the Asian Development Bank (ADB)-funded Chabimura Tourism Development Project, valued at ₹68.80 crore. He informed that the project is likely to be completed by November this year. The minister recently visited the project site and expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work.

“Work at Chabimura is progressing well and the project is expected to take its final shape by November. Once completed, it will emerge as one of Tripura’s premier tourism destinations,” he said.

Earlier in the day, the Tourism Minister chaired a high-level review meeting at the Secretariat to assess the progress of several major tourism projects being implemented across the state. The projects reviewed included the construction of replicas of the 51 Shakti Peethas at Bonduar in Udaipur, development of tourism infrastructure at Chabimura, and enhancement of visitor facilities around Kasbeswari Kamalasagar Kali Bari and the Chaturdasha Devata Temple.

In a separate review meeting, Chowdhury examined the progress of large-scale tourism and recreation projects at Sachindranagar in Jirania. These include the proposed Tripura Heritage Village and Sangeet Experience Centre, along with a modern amusement park being developed on the lines of Kolkata’s Nicco Park.

During the meetings, the minister reviewed implementation challenges, assessed construction timelines, and issued necessary directives to officials and executing agencies to accelerate work and ensure timely completion.

Officials said these projects form part of the state government’s broader strategy to strengthen tourism infrastructure, preserve cultural heritage, and create world-class attractions capable of drawing visitors from across India and abroad.
