Kadamtala, June 1: A significant boost to Tripura’s traditional agarwood sector was marked on Monday with the inauguration of the Agarwood Skill Training Center at Kadamtala in North Tripura. The initiative, jointly launched by the North Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation (NERAMAC) and the National Cooperative Organics Limited (NACOF), aims to create skilled manpower and strengthen one of the state’s most promising agro-based industries.

The inauguration ceremony was held at the Kadamtala Panchayat Samiti Hall and was formally opened with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by North Tripura Zilla Sabhadhipati Aparna Nath.

The programme witnessed the presence of several distinguished guests, including NACOF in-charge Nitin Kumar, Kadamtala Block Chairman Mihir Ranjan Nath, All Tripura Agar Association President Shailendra Nath, NERAMAC in-charge Aman Raut, Block Officer Utpal Das, Vice Chairman Vidyabhushan Das, and Sub-Divisional Forest Officer Supriya Debnath, among others.

Addressing the gathering, speakers highlighted the growing importance of the agarwood industry in Tripura and its potential to generate employment, boost exports, and strengthen the rural economy. They noted that agarwood cultivation and processing have long been associated with the state and possess immense scope for expansion in domestic as well as international markets.

The newly established training center is designed to equip young people and cultivators with modern skills related to agarwood cultivation, processing, value addition, quality control, and marketing. Officials said the facility would help bridge skill gaps and encourage the adoption of improved techniques that can enhance productivity and profitability.

“The objective is not only to preserve a traditional industry but also to modernize it and create sustainable livelihood opportunities for local communities,” one of the speakers remarked.

The center is expected to benefit agarwood growers and entrepreneurs from Kadamtala, Churaibari, Baghan, and Fulbari, providing them with access to structured training programmes and technical expertise. By promoting scientific methods and skill development, the initiative aims to make the sector more organized and competitive.

Officials expressed confidence that the training center will emerge as a key institution for nurturing talent, supporting cultivators, and accelerating the growth of Tripura’s agarwood industry. The initiative is also expected to contribute significantly to regional economic development by creating employment opportunities and strengthening the value chain associated with agarwood production and processing.
