Agartala, May 29: The West Tripura district administration has reported significant achievements under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), with the generation of 28.63 lakh person-days of employment across nine blocks during the 2025–26 financial year.
According to district officials, the employment was generated between April 1, 2025 and March 31, 2026 against a target of 37.66 lakh workdays. The administration stated that nearly three-fourths of the target was achieved through the implementation of multiple rural development projects aimed at strengthening infrastructure and improving livelihoods in villages.
Officials informed that a total of 238 development projects were executed under the scheme during the period. These projects included construction of 30 box culverts, 63 brick soling roads, 103 cement concrete (CC) roads, seven compound walls, five storm water drains and two pucca drains.
The district administration also completed the construction of two rural markets and four Self-Help Group (SHG) federation buildings to support economic activities and strengthen rural entrepreneurship. In addition, a cremation ground, a community toilet, a school kitchen shed and a work shed were constructed under the programme.
The administration further reported that nine Anganwadi centres were renovated as part of efforts to improve rural social infrastructure and provide better facilities for women and children.
Officials said the implementation of MGNREGA not only created employment opportunities for rural households but also helped build durable community assets that would contribute to long-term development.
Alongside infrastructure projects, the district also made progress under the Chief Minister’s Rubber Mission. According to officials, rubber plantations covering 917.10 hectares of land were developed during the period to promote sustainable livelihood opportunities for farmers and enhance income generation in rural areas.
District authorities highlighted that the combined focus on employment generation, infrastructure development and agricultural expansion has strengthened rural communities across West Tripura. They said the projects undertaken under MGNREGA are expected to improve connectivity, public facilities and economic opportunities while laying the foundation for sustainable growth and inclusive rural development in the district.
