Agartala, April 2: The Assam Rifles on Thursday conducted a comprehensive drone awareness and training session for personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force in Agartala, aiming to enhance preparedness against emerging technological threats.

According to a defence spokesperson, the initiative marks a significant step in equipping security forces to tackle challenges posed by the increasing use of unmanned aerial systems in both civilian and security domains. The programme was designed to familiarise CISF personnel with evolving drone-related threats and strengthen their response capabilities.

The session commenced with an in-depth classroom module on drone familiarisation. Experts from Assam Rifles briefed participants on various types of drones, their operational capabilities, and the potential security risks they pose. Special emphasis was placed on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), including identification of drones, threat assessment, and appropriate countermeasures in case of hostile encounters.

This was followed by a practical training segment, where CISF personnel received hands-on exposure to drone operations. Live demonstrations allowed participants to observe drone manoeuvres and understand their functionalities in real-time. They were also trained in basic handling techniques and identifying different drone models, helping bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and field application.

Officials highlighted that such joint training programmes play a crucial role in strengthening inter-agency coordination and improving overall operational efficiency. The initiative not only enhanced the technical awareness of CISF personnel but also boosted their confidence in dealing with drone-related scenarios. Participants described the training as timely and relevant in the current security landscape.

The CISF is responsible for securing key installations across the region, including the Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in Agartala.

Earlier this week, Assam Rifles also conducted a two-day drone exercise in Nagaland’s Peren district under the Indian Army’s Spear Corps at the Drone Training Node in Jalukie. The exercise focused on tactical surveillance, technical handling, and situational simulations, and was reviewed by senior officials, who expressed satisfaction with the high level of operational readiness.

One of India’s oldest paramilitary forces, the Assam Rifles continues to play a vital role in safeguarding the Northeast and maintaining high standards of preparedness through such capacity-building initiatives.
