Khowai, March 28: In a major राजनीतिक development ahead of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections, a significant number of leaders and supporters from Tipra Motha joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday, dealing a setback to the ruling party in the council.

The mass joining programme was held at Bachhaibari Community Hall under Asharam Bari Mandal in Khowai district, in the presence of Sameer Oraon, national president of the BJP Janajati Morcha. Several prominent BJP leaders, including Minister Bikash Debbarma, party candidate Ananta Debbarma, district president Binoy Debbarma, and district general secretary Samir Kumar Das, were also present at the event.

Addressing the gathering, BJP leaders exuded confidence that the party would secure a decisive victory in the upcoming TTAADC elections and form the next executive committee. They also claimed that Tipra Motha was heading towards a major electoral setback.

According to local BJP functionaries, around 315 families, comprising more than 1,100 voters, joined the party during the event. The induction was led by local leaders Rajesh Debbarma, Tapas Debbarma, and Rima Debbarma, who brought their supporters into the BJP fold.

Speaking on behalf of the new entrants, Rajesh Debbarma and Rima Debbarma said they had decided to leave their former party to support what they described as a vision for a “New Tripura.” They expressed confidence that the BJP’s leadership would ensure development and stability in the region.

The programme was chaired by Asharam Bari Mandal committee president Jayanta Debbarma, who welcomed the new members and highlighted the growing support base of the party in the area.

Meanwhile, the event witnessed a brief moment of uncertainty after rumours spread that Tipra Motha workers had surrounded the venue, leading to speculation that the programme might be cancelled. However, Samir Kumar Das later clarified through social media that the situation was under control and the event would proceed as planned.

BJP leaders also appealed to more people to join the party and extend their support ahead of the crucial ADC elections.
